Volkswagen wins prestigious CLIO Award for advertising

May 06, 2012 By: athony Category: Automobiles

n/a

The International CLIO Awards are the world’s largest advertising prizes given to companies, agencies, and artists for their work in marketing and advertising. While Hollywood has its Oscars and the music industry has its Grammy’s, advertising has the CLIO. These awards are given by the advertising industry to brands and creative professionals who exemplify creative excellence.

At the 53rd annual awards, coming this May 15th at the American Museum of Natural History in brand new release York City, Volkswagen will again take honors for its unique and unusual advertising. VW won awards in 1999 and 2009 as well, so this is not the first time the German automaker has been recognized as a world leader in creative advertising.

Karl Vontz, Director of the CLIO Awards, says that “Volkswgen has a knack for grabbing our attention in unique and different ways while holding their brand to a very high standard.” The Advertiser of the Year award is given to a brand whose global work achieves creative leadership. This past year, VW has run ads in all of its markets worldwide that have hit specific cultural and often humorous nerves in each area of the globe.

The award comes as Volkswagen receives 15 inidivual CLIO Awards for various campaigns around the world in several types of media from film to print and television. The marketing teams and creatives who made the ads were also recognized.

Among ads recognized to bring this honor to VW were:

By Deutsch in LA: The Bark Side and The Dog Strikes Back

By Nomad Films, Mumbai: Flyboy

By Turning Studios in Sydney: Change Room

Audi planning to buy Ducati for $1.1 billion

April 17, 2012 By: athony Category: Automobiles

The report states that Audi has reached an agreement with Investindustrial, the current parent company of Ducati, which would transfer ownership of the Italian superbike company to Audi for 860 million Euros ($1.1 billion USD). Although both Audi and Investindustrial have declined to comment further, this move has been rumored to be in the works for some time now. Also, Volkswagen Chairman Ferdinand Piech showed a great deal of interest in purchasing Ducati when the company was last on the market in 2008 but VW was eventually beaten out by current owner Investindustrial.

According to Automotive brand new releases, the price of $1.1 billion would value Ducati at roughly 7 times what the company made in 2011 and with the company will come around 200 million Euros ($283 million USD) in liabilities. Ducati sold around 42,000 motorcycles in 2011 with revenue of roughly 480 million Euros ($631 million USD).

must be the buyout of Ducati go through, the Italian motorcycle marquee with be the 11th brand in the Volkswagen Empire. The current passenger vehicle brands offered under the VW halo are Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Seat, Skoda and Volkswagen which are joined by commercial brands including VW Commercial Vehicles, Scania, and MAN. Ducati would be the first motorcycle offering from the modern Volkswagen Auto Group.

In addition to allowing the Volkswagen Auto Group to instantly be competitive in a brand new release market segment in a variety of markets around the world, the purchase of Ducati would also give Audi a chance to compete with BMW in the motorcycle market. BMW has long sold a family of popular motorcycles of different types, making them among the most successful companies to offer both automobiles and motorcycles in the global market alongside the likes of Honda. The Volkswagen Group would surely love to be capable to claim part of the motorcycle segment as their own and acquiring Ducati gives them a healthy leg-up in doing just that. Ducati is currently availcapable in 65 countries and in addition to bringing about a brand new release market segment, the Ducati brand brings with it over a half century of successful racing history.

Investindustrial first announced that they were considering selling the Ducati brand in February of this year. Early on, there were rumors that Mercedes Benz parent company Daimler wanted to acquire Ducati but that was quickly put down by the German automaker. The other main suitor for Ducati has been Indian motorcycle company Hero MotoCorp Ltd but if these brand new release reports prove to be true – the Italian superbike builder will soon belong the a German luxury brand.

The final decision is set to be made by the Volkswagen supervisory board tomorrow (Wednesday April 18th), so within the next 48 hours, we must be have a clear look at the future of the Ducati brand.

2014 VW Beetle Convertible coming early next year with a diesel option

April 07, 2012 By: athony Category: Automobiles

n/a

Everyone in the automotive world was expecting Volkswagen to unveil a brand new release 2014 Beetle convertible at the brand new release York International Auto Show this week, but as reported by Car and Driver, the German automaker will hold off its debut until November. The all-brand new release Beetle convertible will bow at the Los Angeles Auto Show instead.

brand new releases of the brand new release Beetle convertible is not a surprise to anyone, and the car must be go on sale early in 2013. VW has told that the same Strengthtrain options that are availcapable in the coupe will also be offered in the convertible. Two engines will be availcapable for the soft-top, a 2.5-liter five-cylinder engine producing 170-horseStrength for the base car, as well as a forced-induction Turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder model pumping out 200 horseStrength and 207 lb-ft of torque. Both transmission choices can be mated to the engines as well: a six-velocity DSG or a six-velocity manual.

But the addition of a brand new release engine choice for the North American market could come as a surprise. The brand new release convertible will be offered with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder TDI diesel engine that will have 140-horseStrength, and 236-lb-ft of torque. It will be availcapable with either a six-velocity manual or the six-velocity dual-clutch automatic.

Why would Volkswagen offer a turbo-diesel in the brand new release Beetle? Because buyers in the U.S. are finally realizing what a good choice the oil-burner can be. And also because VW is selling its TDI diesels at a record pace. In fact, they account for 23 percent of all VW sales in the U.S. Volkswagen now offers the TDI in their Golf, Jetta models. Toureg, and Passat. The Beetle TDI coupe goes on sale this summer.

Diesel engines have been used in Europe for decades and this is what they drive; small, maneuvercapable, fuel efficient diesel cars. And as diesel technology continues to evolve, we’ll continue to see diesel engines being used more. Ford has plans to expand their ECOnetic diesel Technology throughout Europe, estimating that half of European Fords sold by the end of this year will have the the brand new release diesel technology, and two-thirds next year.

When it goes on sale next spring, the VW Beetle will be the only diesel convertible availcapable in the United States. The brand new release TDI Beetle must be be a hot commodity if it mirrors the rest of the VW TDI lineup.

Photos have not been released by Volkswagen as of yet, but stay tuned to Torque brand new releases for the latest developments.

VW Debuts New Alltrack Wagon Concept

March 31, 2012 By: athony Category: Automobiles

n/a

Those familiar with Volkwagen will recognize the Alltrack name, being sold in Europe as the Passat Alltrack. The debut in brand new release York is roughly the same wagon, with a few design changes, but it has dropped the Passat name tag and the Americanized features of the Passat Wagon sold here.

VW has made it clear that the Alltrack being shown in brand new release York is only a concept and will not go to production. Instead, the company is looking for potential consumer reaction to the idea of a higher-clearance, off-road capcapable wagon – in diesel.

Yep, one of the things they’re wondering is how we will react to a TDI in this platform. The European version of the Alltrack is using a 140 horseStrength, four cylinder, 2.0-liter TDI with a 6-velocity dual clutch DSG automatic transmission and all wheel drive with an “offroad” setting. Further setting it apart from Subaru would be the hill-descent control.

If they get the reaction they’re looking for, then VW would have several options with this platform. They could try to sell it as-is (not likely, given the American reaction to the small Passat when it introduced), they could put the drive train and technology into the Americanized Passat Wagon sold here (which would mean, perhaps, restoring that nameplate), or they could put it into another vehicle altogether such as the popular Jetta SportWagon or bring the European CrossGolf to North America. The Passat or Jetta seem most realistic.

So What’s So Special Here?
What’s special is that it’s an offroad wagon that isn’t a crossover and that is using diesel. Clean diesel is Europe’s greatest threat to other imports in the U.S., as it sports higher mileage numbers than equivalent gasoline and (often) even hybrids.

To make its off-road cred known, VW has added chunkier bumpers, a higher stance, a front and rear underbody guard made of steel plate, and the aforementioned offroad programming additions.

Other changes when “offroad” is selected include higher control intervals for the anti-lock braking system (ABS), faster-reacting electronic differential locks and parallel torque control from the engine to match. Gearshift points are raised so that higher engine revs can be used before auto-shifting and manual override on the DSG lever no longer upshifts when revs are high. Cruise control and other highway-only options are deactivated in off-road. Offroad mode switches off automatically if the velocity exceeds 18mph.

If the market reacts well, it’s uncertain how soon Volkswagen could bring the Alltrack TDI Wagon (or whatever it becomes) to market here. 2014 would likely be the earliest.
