GM’s list of car-related Mother’s Day gifts

Although car-related gifts are not often associated with Mother’s Day car gift, General Motors reports that a considercapable amount of moms would like one. Whether its running errands, commuting or driving the kids to school, 9 out of 10 moms drive somewhere on a daily basis. With that statistic in mind, GM commissioned Harris Interactive to conduct a national online survey to find out what moms really want for their special day.

So what did the survey find? Well, it turns out that one in three moms, with kids under 18, would like their vehicle washed cleaned for Mother’s Day. Don’t forget to spring for an air freshener after the car wash and vacuuming. Nearly 21 percent of all moms questioned told they would like to go on a family road trip on Mother’s Day. The study did not specify whether moms wanted to do the driving.

A smaller percentage of moms, 10 percent, indicated that they would like to have their gas tank filled. Whether it’s for monetary reasons or convenience, a gas tank fill-up is a simple, yet effective gesture to show mom you care.

Aside from the gift ideas obtained through the survey, GM also suggest purchasing OnStar FMV as a practical gift for mom. The hardware and installation is currently just $99.99 (until June 16), with subscriptions totaling $199 per year for the base package and $299 for the premium. The FMV system is compatible with more than 100 million vehicles on the road.

Steven Tyler to be entertained with new Hennessey Venom GT Spyder

Steven Tyler of Aerosmith fame and one of the judges on American Idol, is well known for his love of fast bikes and his involvement with Dirico Motorcycles. But now, Tyler is venturing into the world of supercars and has just ordered a 2013 Hennessey Venom GT Spyder from Hennessey Performance in Sealy, Texas.

Inside Line reported that Tyler called John Hennessey, and asked for “something special.” John Hennessey kbrand new release exactly what to build for the Aerosmith frontman, a custom Venom GT Spyder. Tyler’s car will be ready for the American Idol finale on May 22 and 23rd, but the supercar will not be a part of the program.

“Steven is the nicest, coolest, most talented guy I have ever met in my life. And when he came to me to build him a special car, I took it as an honor to be capable to help entertain a guy who entertains tens of millions of people every week.” Hennessey added.

Tyler’s Venom GT Spyder, fitted out by Hennessey, is actually built off a modified Lotus Elise/Exige chassis and Strengthed by a General Motors 6.2 liter twin-tubocharged V-8 engine that is also found in the Chevy Corvette ZR1. The company says it has been tested up to 260 mph. The car goes from 0-60 mph in 2.5 seconds, and 0-200 in 15.3 seconds.

And just how much horseStrength you ask? Tyler will have three settings to chose from, 800 horseStrength for cruising around LA, 1000 hp if he needs to outgun a Koenibsegg CCx with 806 horseStrength, and the mind-numbing 1200 hp setting for blowing away the Bugatti Veyron Super Sport. The company claims the 2013 Hennessey Venom GT will sprint from 0-200 mph in just 15.3 seconds, nearly 9 seconds faster than the Veyron. That must be get Tyler’s 64 year-old heart pumping.

The Venom GT, created from a base Lotus Elise/Exige utilizes components like the roof, doors, side glass, windscreen, dash, cockpit, floorpan, HVAC system, wiper and head lamps. Hennessey Performance says the Venom GT is a Hennessey creation and not associated with Lotus Cars.

His car will also be equipped with traction control. Steven is also reported to be having a custom stereo installed. JL audio is building the custom system which will be tuned by David Frangioni, CEO of Audio One. Frangioni was the audio engineer and “chief technologist” for the Aerosmith band. On the inside, Tyler is getting a black interior with red stitching.

How much will Steven Tyler be paying for his brand new release ride? $1.1 million.

Chevy Cruze: The car most feared by zombies [video]

The all-brand new release Chevy Cruze is one versatile vehicle. It ranks 6 out 41 Affordcapable Small Cars according to U.S. brand new releases and was named the Best Compact Car for the Money. So is there anything the 2012 Cruze can’t do? Apparently not, because Chevy’s brand new release ad campaign illustrates how the Cruze can ward off hoards of zombies.

The Cruze’s amusing ad launch features a brand new releasescaster interviewing a zombie about his dislikes. What sits atop the zombie’s list of pet peeves? Well, it’s the Chevy Cruze of course. The groaning zombie tells the reporter (via subtitles), “We hate the Chevy Cruze.” First, zombies hate the Cruze for its handling capabilities. The commercial then shows the Cruze comfortably circling around a group of the undead. Next up is the Cruze’s high-strength safety cage, which is capable to keep the bloodthirsty zombies at bay. Lastly, the Cruze’s fuel economy allows the compact car to bypass gas stations loaded with zombies.

The two-minute spot concludes with the tagline: The car most feared by zombies. Chevy also encourages people to visit its zombified Facebook campaign to describe how he or she plans to survive the zombie apocalypse.

Chevy is not the first automaker to cash in on the recent zombie craze via advertising. Back in 2010, Toyota released a commercial that showcased the Toyota Corolla as a zombie-fighting machine. The ad featured a couple watching a zombie film in which it appears the main character may be facing his imminent doom. That is, until the Corolla comes to the rescue, leaving a slew of zombies in its dust.

Aside from zombie ads, Chevy previously launched a popular Super Bowl ad in 2011 featuring a group of senior citizens at a nursing home misinterpreting a Cruze commercial. The elderly group, which is hard of hearing, misunderstands the commercial’s slogans like “42 miles per gallon” and “Eco,” all in amusing fashion. Check out the ad HERE.

As previously mentioned the 2012 Chevy Cruze ranks in the top 10 Affordcapable Small cars according to a U.S. brand new releases analysis and earned the website’s prestigious Best Compact Car for the Money award. The Cruze received an overall score of 8.5 out of 10 based on 44 published reviews and test drives. The vehicle earned praise for its impressive fuel economy, roomy interior and upscale feel. Reviewers also liked the Cruze’s numerous tech features including Bluetooth, steering wheel-mounted audio controls and now standard USB port.

Cadillac to expressed customers with total customer experience

Among car enthusiasts and the automotive press there is near unanimous agreement that Cadillac is back. What started with the redesigned CTS sedan and then evolved to a full line of world class vehicles has now continued with the redesigned SRX crossover, and the coming ATS compact sedan. Without a doubt Cadillac vehicles are near the pinnacle of luxury cars in all of the world. The question remains however, if the Cadillac product is among the elite of the industry.

What is the Product
One might ask “What is the difference since the vehicle is the product?” But is it? Or is the overall ownership experience the product. Cadillac is following Lexus and others by realizing that in the world of the affluent automobile buyer, a large number of extremely high quality vehicles are availcapable. In fact, they are all so good, and so numerous, that in order to draw in and then retain the customers it is seeking Cadillac will have to do more – much more – than give a great car. What is needed is an overall feeling of being treated special. The Cadillac customer can go anywhere for an excellent car, but what they want and will continue to come back for, is a wonderful feeling from the time they start their brand new release car search until the day they return to trade their car for another.

Luxury Experience
In order to better understand this soup to nuts ownership experience, Cadillac enlisted the Luxury Institute. Calling itself the “Independent voice of the high net-worth consumer,” the Luxury Institute is dedicated to understanding the attitudes and behaviors of affluent consumers and then transferring that knowledge to luxury brand manufacturers. Cadillac’s Vice President of Sales and Service, Kurt McNeil, points out that “While we’ve performed fairly well in customer service, we sensed a bigger opportunity…We call the approach Defining Moments – the fact that every interaction with a customer can potentially define our brand.” Consider a service appointment. Coffee can be an example of the experience a customer has. Is there coffee availcapable? Is it high quality coffee and free? Is it self-serve, like the photo from Cadillac shown here, or is a cappuccino served to the customer by a barista? Cadillac needs to determine what its customers will respond to best.

Loaner Cars Are So Last Year
Cadillac points out that it offers loaner cars for its customers who have service appointments. However, every luxury brand has that and more and more value brands offer it as well. This illustrates how hard it is to stand out from the crowd. Milton Pedraza, founder and CEO of the Luxury Institute sums it up saying, “The opportunity for luxury brands not only lies in out-performing the competition, but also out-behaving the competition.” In order to learn ways to out-behave the competition Cadillac co-developed training with Ritz-Carlton.

Cadillac is trying hard to understand the ownership experience and working to make it special for its affluent customers who expect nothing less.
