The Alaska Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) offers three different driving handbooks, each of which covers a different set of driving license classes. Whether you want to drive passenger vehicles, motorcycles, commercial vehicles or buses, Alaska offers a manual for you.
Passenger Vehicle Driver Handbook?Class D
If you are in the process of applying for a new Class D (passenger vehicle) driver license, you can download the AK DMV Alaska Driver Manual to read and review before you head out for testing. If you are a teen driver and are taking your driving lessons from your parents, download or pick up a copy of this handbook to help you learn the rules of the road.

Motorcycle Driver Handbook?Class M1
Are you thinking of driving a motorcycle? Do you need information and the handbook for a Class M1 license? You will need to get in touch with your local AK DMV office and ask them how to obtain a copy of the motorcycle driver manual, since it is not yet available online.
Commercial Driver Handbook?Class A, B, or C
You can also download the Commercial Driver License Manual. It has all of the information you will need in order to take your Class A, Class B or Class C commercial driving knowledge and road tests. There is also information about the hazmat background checks and fingerprinting that are now required for CDL hazmat endorsements.
Passenger and School Bus Drivers
To become a bus driver, you must hold a Alaska commercial driver license (Class A, B, or C) and will also require one or two endorsements depending on the type of bus you’ll drive. For a vehicle that carries more than 15 people, including the driver, you will need a passenger endorsement. To drive a school bus, you’ll need a school bus endorsement on your CDL, in addition to the passenger endorsement.
